Image Generation

Generate model-native images from a prompt or a reference asset and save every result straight to your local asset library.

Design Studio -> Image Generation turns a prompt or a reference asset into a raster image and saves valid results immediately to Assets. It runs on an AI CLI you already have installed, or on your own provider API key.

This is separate from Design Studio's Creative Builder, which remains the editable, locally rendered layout workflow. Image Generation produces a finished image file and validates it before saving.

Choosing a Route

RouteWhat runs itNotes
Local AIAn installed AI CLIRuns on the CLI subscription you already pay for. Nothing is metered per image, and the prompt does not leave the machine.
API callYour own provider keyBilled per request by your provider. The prompt leaves this device on this route.

Not every CLI has an image model behind it. Picking one that does not is refused up front, with the reason and a shortcut to a CLI that can — rather than running a full generation and failing on a missing file at the end.

Generating an Image

  1. Pick Local AI or API call.
  2. Write the prompt. Describe the image, composition, subject, lighting, and intended use.
  3. Set the agent, size, quality, and number of outputs.
  4. Optionally attach a reference image to seed the generation.
  5. Run it.

The Execution boundary panel on the right states what will happen before you commit: the project, the workflow (installed CLI or API), the operation, where the file will be stored, and which agent will run it.

History

Generate and History are separate tabs. Jobs are durable — they keep running across navigation and app restarts — and History shows live progress with a Cancel button on anything still running.

Completed outputs are ordinary Assets. Each finished job offers:

  • Download — save the file outside the app.
  • Open in Assets — jump to it in the asset library.
  • Use as reference — seed a new generation from this result.
  • Run again — repeat the same request.
  • Delete history — remove the history entry. Generated Assets remain.

Notes

  • Only validated output is imported. A CLI that runs but writes no usable media file does not create an Asset.
  • Assets are scoped to the active project, like the rest of the workspace.
  • Video Generation is not available yet. The Design Studio video page is still a placeholder while hosted video model support is added.
