AI Visibility

Track how often your brand appears, ranks, and is cited inside AI answers across seven engines.

AI Visibility measures how your brand appears in AI answer surfaces. It tracks brand mentions, competitors, citations, and sentiment across seven engines: Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Grok.

The section has two halves. Trackers measure a term list you wrote, on a schedule. Mentions searches an archive of real AI answers for your domain, so the questions come back as the result instead of something you had to guess.

Tracker Setup

Create a tracker with:

  • Your domain, and any brand variants to match.
  • A prompt or keyword set (up to 100 terms).
  • Location, or Global.
  • The engines to watch.
  • Samples per term.

Choosing Engines

Each engine is answered by a credential you already have, and the badge under each one names the route before you run anything:

RouteWhat answers the questionCost
Browser scrapeA local browser fetch. AI Overview only.Free
DataForSEOA paid API request.Billed per request
Your keyYour own model API key with live web search.Your provider's rate
Local CLIAn installed AI CLI agent.Nothing extra

When nothing can answer an engine yet, the badge names what to add instead of failing at run time.

Because your own key and a local CLI cost nothing, the pre-run estimate only charges for engines that go through DataForSEO. The confirmation dialog lists Billed engines and On your own keys separately.

Local CLI answers are labelled as model memory wherever they appear. That route has no web retrieval, so treat it as a baseline rather than a live citation.

Samples and Confidence

AI answers vary between identical runs. Asking a term once per run gives you a number with no error bar on it.

Set Samples per term to 1, 3, or 5. Higher sampling is what makes the variance band meaningful — and it multiplies the cost of any paid engine.

The Engines tab reports each engine's visibility with a 95% range beside it. A change smaller than that range is sampling noise, not a trend. A tracker still running at a single sample per term is flagged as such rather than reported as precise.

Reviewing Results

The tracker detail view has tabs for AI Overviews, Trends and terms, Engines, Competitors, Citations, Sentiment, Evidence, and Responses.

Evidence holds every stored answer for the selected period with the engine, the route that fetched it, the model that wrote it, and which sample it was — so any figure on the dashboard can be traced back to the text behind it.

Mentions

The Mentions tab searches DataForSEO's archive of Google AI Overview and ChatGPT answers for your domain. You do not supply a term list; the questions are the result.

  • Match on Cited as source (your domain is linked in the answer) or Named in answer (mentioned in prose, link or not). Subdomains are included.
  • Filter by Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, or both.
  • Results roll up into Questions (sorted by how often they are asked inside AI tools), Your pages, and Brands.
  • Open a question to read the archived answer, the ranked sources beside it, and which one is yours.
  • Send any question — or the top 20 — into a new tracker to monitor it across all seven engines.

Every search is saved automatically. Reopening one costs nothing and shows what the archive said that day, not what it says now.

Mentions requires a separate DataForSEO subscription; trackers keep working without it. Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Grok have no archive, so they are covered by Trackers only.

What to Watch

  • Which questions trigger an AI answer at all.
  • Whether your domain is cited, named in prose, or absent.
  • Which of your pages the answer picked.
  • Which competitors are cited in your place.
  • How your brand is described when it is named.
  • Whether a move clears the 95% range, or sits inside it.

An Engine gap alert fires when your brand is visible in one engine and effectively absent from another over the same terms.

Sharing

The shareable HTML report carries a By engine section with the same visibility figures and 95% ranges, so a reader sees the confidence alongside the headline.

How to Improve

  • Publish pages that answer the questions Mentions surfaced, in the words they were asked.
  • Cover the terms where a competitor is cited and you are not.
  • Re-run the tracker after publishing and compare the move against the range, not against the previous single sample.
  • Track discovered questions continuously rather than re-searching by hand.
