Instagram Setup
Set up Instagram publishing with the Instagram API with Instagram login — add permissions, register the OAuth redirect, add yourself as a tester, and connect in 1MarketingTool.
Instagram publishing uses the Instagram API with Instagram login on your own Meta app. Your account must be a Professional (Business or Creator) account — no linked Facebook Page is required. Keep the app in Development mode; only your own account needs to connect, so no App Review is needed.
The Instagram credentials are separate from any Facebook credentials on the same app — you copy an Instagram App ID and Instagram App Secret, not the Facebook ones.
Use this redirect URI exactly:
https://oauth.1marketingtool.com/cb
1. Switch Instagram to a Professional Account
In the Instagram app (or on instagram.com), open Settings, search Account type, and choose Switch to professional account. The publishing API only works with a Professional account.
2. Open the Instagram Use Case
In Meta for Developers, open your app's dashboard. If you don't have an app yet, create a Business app first.
Go to Use cases and Customize the Manage messaging & content on Instagram use case. (The same app can also carry your Facebook or Threads use cases.)
3. Add the Required Permissions
Open the API setup with Instagram business login tab. In the Add required permissions step, click Go to permissions and features.
Add both instagram_business_basic and instagram_business_content_publish.
Confirm both permissions show as added — instagram_business_basic should read Ready for testing.
These
instagram_business_*permissions only work on the Instagram login dialog. They are rejected as "Invalid Scopes" on the Facebook login dialog.
4. Copy Your Instagram App ID and Secret
Back on API setup with Instagram business login, click to copy the Instagram App ID and (after revealing it) the Instagram App Secret.
In 1MarketingTool, open the Instagram channel and paste the App ID and App Secret. They're stored in your OS keychain and never uploaded. Save, but don't click Connect yet.
5. Register the Redirect URL
Still on API setup with Instagram business login, scroll to Set up Instagram business login and click Set up.
In the dialog, set the Redirect URL to https://oauth.1marketingtool.com/cb and Save. This hosted bounce returns the login to the app and never sees your secret.
6. Add Yourself as an Instagram Tester
While the app is in Development mode, only accepted testers can authorize it. In the left nav, expand App roles and open Roles.
Click Add People.
Choose Instagram Tester, enter your Instagram handle, and click Add.
The invite now shows as Pending — it has to be accepted from the Instagram account itself.
On instagram.com, open Settings → Apps and websites → Tester Invites and click Accept.
Skip this step and Connect fails with "Insufficient Developer Role".
7. Connect in 1MarketingTool
Back in 1MarketingTool, click Connect with Instagram. Log in and keep both toggles on — View profile and access media and Access and publish content — then click Allow.
The channel flips to Connected as your @handle with roughly 60 days of validity. Click Test connection to confirm it reports your username.
8. Send a Test Post
Click Send test post. Instagram requires media, so 1MarketingTool attaches a sample image; you'll see a Test post sent confirmation with a View post link.
Open your Instagram profile to see the post live — end-to-end publishing works.
Notes
- The Instagram App ID and Secret are different from your Facebook App ID and Secret, even on the same Meta app.
- Every Instagram post needs media. Images must be JPEG; you can also post a video/Reel or a 2–10 item carousel.
- The first line of the post body plus the rest become the caption (up to 2,200 characters).
- The login lasts about 60 days — reconnect from the channel when the days-left badge says so.
